Character Information
Name: Chinatsu Hiyama
Canon: Ballroom E Youkoso
Canon Point: Around chapter 40
Age: 16
History: Chinatsu got into ballroom dancing at a young age, but because there were usually more girls than boys that attended the classes, she was always paired with the girls. Not only that, but because she was taller and much better at leading, she never had the chance to dance as a follower. Still, she continued to do what she loved. However, you cannot become a professional or compete at tournaments with an all-female pair, so during middle school she tried to find a male lead. All her interviews were failures, some of them having been unpleasant experiences with middle-aged men that just want to stick to young girls or other men that take dance as a joke. It didn’t help that Chinatsu was so used to leading, and excelled in it even, that she struggled to play the role of the follower. In the end, Chinatsu gave up on her dream and decided to live her life as a normal highschool girl. She had missed out on hanging out with her friends before because of constantly training. When she entered high school, she continued living this way until she entered high school and found out that one of her classmates, Tatara Fujita, was into competitive dance. She bumped into him while watching a tournament as well, and learning that he personally knew a professional pair that she was a fan of, she followed him to his dance studio and asked the boy to introduce her so she could get an autograph.
At first, he thought she was there for his mentor, Sengoku, but later found that she was a fan of his partner. The two pros could tell that Chinatsu had had some kind of dance training, and so they had her practice with Tatara who was still very inexperienced when it came to dancing with a partner (and was currently trying to find one for himself). The dance went horribly with Chinatsu not being able to understand Tatara’s leading, causing them to quite literally step on each other’s toes. Sengoku then had them switch roles, having picked up that Chinatsu was more experienced as a leader. She led them easily, able to have Tatara do moves he hadn’t even learned yet. When Tatara pointed out that Chinatsu seemed to love dancing, she quickly left. She struggled between wanting to go back to dance and her decision to quit, even having difficulty with deciding whether to throw her dance shoes away. Stubborn as she is, she went to give her shoes away to the younger sister of her former dance partner, only to find that Tatara was working part time at their restaurant. After being taunted by her ex-partner, Chinatsu boldly declared that she and Tatara would be competing against her in the next competition. This is how her partnership (or “marriage” as they call it) with Tatara began, and how she returned to the dance floor.
Personality: Chinatsu has a very strong and bold personality. This dominance makes her a reliable and strong lead, but a very poor follower. She likes making the calls and if doesn’t think you’ve got what it takes, she won’t respect or follow your decisions. Her expectations are set high and if you don’t meet those standards, she won’t hesitate to knock you down. This is why many have compared her to a crazed mare, untameable and impossible to keep controlled. Her love of dance is what keeps her going, and she is will work her ass off and (try to) make the compromises needed to capture her dream. Chinatsu does not open up easily, and while she is usually straight forward and direct, she tends to hide her softer feelings. She tends to mask her feelings of embarrassment or pain with anger. She is a very prideful girl in that sense. Chinatsu is also extremely competitive, but this can sometimes cloud her judgement and cause her too push too much. This has shown to be detrimental to competitions because she ends up slipping into her role as a leader
She is a fighter in more than one sense. She is constantly butting heads with certain people, and she won’t back down from a battle of insults and throwing shade. Even as a kid, she would tackle and wrestle with the boys that would bully her friend.
Still, she is a sweet girl deep down that does want to change for the better. She cares for her friends and knows that she can be too much at times, but she still has some trouble controlling her temper. She is a huge fan of Hongou Chiduru, turning into a meek but excitable fangirl whenever she is around. Chinatsu gives off a manly feeling, but she does wanted to be treated as a girl too. This is why she has always wanted to try being a follower, because they get to wear the beautiful gowns and are the ones that get to look so elegant when they dance.

God/Shinki: Shinki
Why?: Since she’s terrible as a follower, being a shinki would be more interesting for her. I think this would give her more of an opportunity to mature and learn how to work with others.
Cause Of Death: Slipped off a flight of stairs and hit her head.
Vessel: A pair of (maybe dancing) shoes! (btw can they only look like a specific kind of are shinkis able to adjust depending on who they’re serving?
Name Location: On the outer side of her left ankle
Power: I’m not sure yet what to call it (choreography?) , but she guides her god’s movements, whether it be through evasion or moving through a battle, she is able to read the opponents movements and act accordingly. She can lead her god out of harm’s way and choose the best movements to position them to fight effectively. This also includes fighting with the shoes (like kicking) or jumping (though she can only jump a certain distance). The movements do resemble dance, so the god’s movements will be pretty elegant.

Chinatsu clicked her tongue. No amount of yelling was going to get her point across to Tatara, so rather than waste her breath, she turned on her heel and walked out the studio. She would return, of course, but she has been trying different ways to cool down. “How does that idiot expect me to follow when he can’t lead for shit!?” She stomped her foot on the ground with a frustrated growl. The stares of people passing-by made her freeze. Crap…
Chinatsu walked more briskly now, face going red from embarrassment. This was stupid Tatara’s fault. Stupid, stupid, Tatara! She clenched her fists, beating up a mental image of her partner. He was so hard to read! How did he expect her to follow his movements if he wouldn’t let her in? It felt like he was blocking her out, not wanting to meet her half-way.
Her pace slowed till she came to a halt, the realization dawning on her. Wasn’t she the same way though? Before he could say anything, she was already cutting him off. With his inexperience she felt it was her job to take over, and yet she was complaining how he wouldn’t lead? Isn’t it because she wasn’t letting him? Honestly, she’s the one that should be embarrassed. He’s been dancing for less a year, and she’s way more notches on her belt. That being said, shouldn’t she be the more patient one?
Ugh…guess that makes us the idiot pair
She jogged back towards the studio, not wanting to waste anymore of their practice time. They had a lot to make up for, which meant they had to practice twice as hard as anyone else. She’ll go back, keep her temper in check, try to give Tatara some leeway, and maybe….maybe she’ll apologize.
